My first week in London has honestly been a blast! My parents and I arrived a few days early in order to get in some sight-seeing and quality family time. My dad got us all "London Passes" which gave us access to a bunch of cool sites around the city like Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and the London Eye.
Of all the places we visited, I think my favorite was honestly the Tower Bridge as it had a great view of the city and wasn't very crowded when we went. I got to try plenty of fish and chips as well as other London favorites like steak and gravy pie. Honestly, though, the thing I really couldn't get over was the architecture of the whole city. It's this strange and fascinating blend of extremely old and incredibly new, with some buildings clinging to medieval or Victorian roots while others look like they were pulled out of a sci fi movie. It created a sense that the city had no basic style other than to inspire beauty, with a new and fascinating scene behind every corner.
However, this trip wasn't all fun and chips. Two days ago, my parents moved me into the University of Roehampton to begin my studies and I woke up that day with sniffles. I figured there was something in the air, so after we dropped my stuff off at my dorm in Garden Court, we ran to a store to get some allergy meds as well as a few other things. By the next day, however, things had only gotten worse and I realized I probably had a cold. Today. I can happily say that I am on the mend and got some cold medicine from a local pharmacy, however, I was sad that I missed some of orientation and todays drop-in appointments because I wasn't feeling well :( By next week, though, I will be better and able to talk about even more adventures!
